In July 2024, 20 members of St Christopher’s Parish embarked on a 10-day mission to Bacolod, Philippines, fostering a renewed sense of faith and responsibility. Led by Fr Tin Trinh SVD and four youth leaders, 15 young adults from the Elevate Connect group partnered with the Good Sams Foundation to support women and children facing challenges like domestic violence, poverty, and natural disasters.

Parishioner Katrina Koh, affectionately called "Aunty Katrina," played a pivotal role in connecting the group with the Good Sams Foundation, drawing from her previous work with Melbourne's Good Samaritan Inn. She highlighted the trip's goal: to immerse participants in real challenges aligned with a mission of service.

Participants were deeply moved by the experience. Liz Dinh admired the Good Samaritans' selflessness, while Alvin Yala reflected on the joy and resilience of Bacolod locals despite limited material wealth. “This experience reminded me to focus on faith, family, and gratitude,” Alvin shared.

The group prepared for the mission through formation sessions on relationship, identity, and mission, which Youth Pastoral Worker Louis Shu described as a way to embrace servant leadership rather than simply offering help.

For many, the mission trip inspired lasting change. Cristina Maiolo launched Awaken Ministry upon returning, while Austin Swamy emphasized living as intentional disciples, serving others daily. Participant Solange Dassanaike was moved by the gratitude and faith of the people she met, returning with a renewed commitment to deepen her relationship with God.

This mission to Bacolod not only strengthened faith but also left participants with enduring lessons in humility, gratitude, and the power of service.
